DAY 1: ARRIVE DELHI
Arrive Delhi International Airport, after meet and greet by local tour manager, transfer to hotel.

DAY 2: IN DELHI
After breakfast depart for full day city tour of Delhi. Begin with a visit to Raj Ghat, where Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the nation was cremated in 1948. Thereafter proceed to the magnificent Red Fort (closed on Mondays) built of red sandstone, dating from the very peak of the Mughal power. Then, Rickshaw Ride through Chandni Chowk. After that, visit to black and white onion domes and minarets of the Jama Masjid, the most elegant mosque in India. After Lunch, drive past Rashtrapati Bhavan (the Presidential Palace) and the Secretariat buildings – the centre of Government activity, down to the impressive Rajpath (the main avenue), to the World War I memorial arch, India Gate, the High Court Building and the Old Fort. Visit Humayun’s Tomb built in 1565 AD by his grieving widow Haji Begum, the Qutub Minar, a 72 metres high minaret and the ruins of Quwat-ul-Eslam (Light of Islam) Mosque. Here, see Delhi’s most curious antique, the uncorroded Iron Pillar, which dates back to the 4th century AD.

DAY 3: DELHI-BAGDOGRA FLY
BAGDOGRA-DARJEELING DRIVE (70KM)
Morning after breakfast transfer to airport for Bagdogra bound flight. On arrival transfer to Darjeeling. It has been a popular hill station since the British established it as R & R Center for its troops in the middle of 1800. . Mother Teresa spent her first years as a nun with the Sisters on Loreto Convent and Lawrence Durrell studied at the prestigious St. Joseph’s College.

DAY 4: IN DARJEELING

Ghoom Monastery , Darjeeling

Early morning, we drive to Tiger Hill to see the amazing colours of sunrise on Kanchenjunga. At 2550 m / 8,500 ft, Tiger Hill commands superb views of the mountains and valleys of the eastern Himalaya with Everest, Lhotse and Makalu visible in the far distance on clear days. We stop at Ghoom monastery on the way back; this monastery was built in 1875. You can take a walk to the Observatory Hill (locally known as “Dara”). Here you will witness an amazing sight of Buddhists and Hindus offering prayers side by side. You will then visit the Everest Museum at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and perhaps pause at the zoo to look at the snow leopards and the charming red pandas. You then drive to the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre where you can see carpet making and other handicrafts and visit the centre’s shop.

DAY 5: DARJEELING-PELLING DRIVE (95KM)
After breakfast drive to Pelling. On arrival transfer to hotel. In the afternoon visit to Kanchenjunga Waterfall, Khecheopalri Lake, Penyang Monastery and Suspension Bridge– the second highest bridge in Asia.

DAY 6: PELLING – GANGTOK DRIVE (125 KM)
Early morning we depart for our steep descent through a series of tea plantations to the tropical Teesta Valley. Passing through sal forests and cinchona (quinine bark) plantations, we reach to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The climate is subtropical in the lower valleys, but changes fast to temperate and alpine with increase in elevation. Vast rhododendron forests, Himalayan cypress, cardamom spice, mixed forests of bamboo and dozens of orchid species are common here.

DAY 7: IN GANGTOK
Gangtok lies on a ridge with fine views of the Kangchenjunga Range. After breakfast we visit the Institute of Cottage Industries where young Sikkimese people are taught traditional crafts. Woollen carpets, shawls and traditionally painted tables are good buys, all at government regulated prices. Later we will visit the Enchey Monastery located on the ridge top above the town. Also visit the Institute of Tibetology which was established in 1958 as a major centre for research on Tibet and Tibetan Lamaistic Buddhism. It houses many rare books, thangkas, statues and manuscripts smuggled out of Tibet after the Chinese occupation. We will also visit the permanent ‘Flower Show’ that exhibits a number of native Sikkimese orchid and flower species. The afternoon is free to explore the town. We recommend a visit to the busy vegetable and spice market.

DAY 8: GANGTOK – KALIMPONG DRIVE (76 KM)

Rumtek Monastery, Gangtok

In the morning, a brief drive to Rumtek Monastery on the opposite side of the valley from Gangtok. Rumtek is the seat of the Tibetan Kagyugpa sect of monks and a major centre for Tibetan religious studies. Drive continued. A scenic drive past forest covered slopes and fast flowing rivers takes us to Kalimpong (1250 m / 4,100 feet), an important market town. It is now well known for its numerous flower and orchid nurseries.

DAY 9: IN KALIMPONG
In the morning, we drive to the monastery that overlooks superb views of Kalimpong town (and the Himalayan peaks) and visit the historic Dr Graham’s home, the extensive boarding and day school facility that was established over a century ago. Then visit Anglican Church with fine stained glass windows nearby and also visit one of the flower nurseries for which Kalimpong is well known across India.

DAY 10: KALIMPONG – BAGDOGRA DRIVE
BAGDOGRA – DELHI – FLY
Morning after breakfast drive to Bagdogra airport for Delhi bound flight. On arrival transfer to hotel.

DAY 11: DEPARTURE
After breakfast transfer to International airport for onward flight.
